We lost my mom to lung cancer a few years ago, and since then i can't believe how many people I know whose lives have been touched by cancer. Unfortunately my mom's cancer was found too late for her treatments to have any real effect, but of all the people we met during her treatment, there was one oncologist and one nurse practitioner at UMD who were so kind and caring. After one of her surgeries, they brought a bottle of her favorite pinot grigio to her ICU room for a little motivation to get home and get better. Training for and running a half marathon is one thing I can do to honor my mom's memory, and honor the oncology doctors and nurses who care for cancer patients every day.
